Where we work

Ofyeneda is operational in Nairobi and Siaya County.

Siaya County is one of the six counties in the Nyanza region. The land surface area of Siaya County is 2,530km² and the water surface area is 1,005 km2 . It is bordered by Busia County to the North West, Vihiga and Kakamega counties to the North East, Kisumu County to the South East and Homa Bay County across the Winam Gulf to the South. The water surface area forms part of Lake Victoria (the third largest fresh water lake in the world). It approximately lies between latitude 0º 26´ South to 0º 18´ North and longitude 33º 58´ and 34º 33´ East. Our activities are mainly centered in Rarieda and Bondo Sub Counties.

Rarieda District, located in western Kenya, has an estimated population of close to 150,000 and an area of 403 Square kilometers.

Kibera slum is located approximately 5 kilometers from Kenya’s capital Nairobi.

Yearly, more than 2000 students are estimated to drop out of secondary schools in Rarieda. This is largely attributed to lack of fees.

Sanitation has been a major challenge in Kibera. There is averagely one latrine for every fifty households.
