Why STC Fund?
STC Centre aims to bridge education gap for street children
By Ofyeneda Communications Team
“Indifference and neglect often do much more damage than outright dislike.” This quote by the famous author J.K. Rowling best describes the aggravated situation faced by thousands of street children in Kenya.
According to Consortium for Street Children, the figures have risen tremendously since the turn of the century. In 1999, it was reported that there were 40,000 street children in Kenya. Currently, that number has risen to an estimated 250,000 – 300,000 with 60,000 reported in the capital Nairobi.
It is no secret that they have to endure sleeping on the floor, eating off leftovers from rubbish dumps and face the dark cloud of an uncertain future every day in their quest to survive. These children are also human beings and require decent food, a place to live and access to basic education which is fundamental in turning their lives around.
OFYENEDA seeks to address these issues within its capacity through programs and strategic partnerships that will go a long way in helping the street children within our reach to transform their lives. Part of our futuristic approach to getting the needed solutions will be setting up a ‘Street to Class’ (STC) Centre’.
What is the importance of this centre?
This centre will play crucial roles in the children’s rehabilitation, training and specialized education. Additionally, the centre will house them thus providing decent living environment for the absorbed street children.
Rome was not built in a day and that is why we firmly believe that this ambitious initiative in its own way will impact positively on the lives of these children and set them on a straight path.
