Macrine Eunice Akinyi
Macrine is a form 1 student at Wambassa secondary school.
Mildred is currently in form 1 at Jusa Mixed Secondary School where she does extraordinarily well. She is particularly good in mathematics and sciences.
Mildred and Macrine are orphaned.
They are siblings who are left to live with their visibly old grandmother who cannot adequately provide for them. Macrine Eunice Akinyi is 17 years old living with the grandmother Anastacia Ogoma in Ang’wenyo village Barkanyango North Yimbo.
Macrine is bright
she has shown extraordinary academic potential at Wambassa Secondary School where she is currently in form 1. Her performance continues to be impressive despite life challenges. She is hugely in arrears.
The grandmother has no source of income.
Anastacia depended mostly on the deceased daughter Pamela Apiyo (Macrine’s mother) for all the support she needed. With the death of the daughter, life has been extremely difficult for her and the grandchildren. They are literally at the mercy of community members. They have to make do without most basic needs. Even a single meal a day is not guaranteed. Given that this region is highly rated in poverty the support that they need from community members doesn’t always come. Most community members don’t even have enough to take care of their own needs.
Mildred Atieno is 16 years of age living with the elder sister and the grandmother in Ang’wenyo village Barkanyango North Yimbo. She is currently in form 1 at Jusa Mixed Secondary School where she does extraordinarily well. She is particularly good in mathematics and sciences.
For USD 1651 annually, Macrine and Mildred will both have a chance to be in Secondary school.
In addition, they will have 3 healthy meals a day for the entire family. It costs Kenya shillings 169200 annually to support Macrine and Mildred through secondary education and provide three healthy meals a day for them and the grandmother. She is in huge arrears. Without support none of the two siblings will make it through secondary education. They are both extremely humble and hard working. Given support they will likely make it in life through education to become responsible employable adults in future.
